Staff, students, friends and alumni reminisced about Mount Union College and learned of the changes to come along with the transition from College to University during Thursday night's Purple Carpet premiere.
As the band played, old and new friends talked about the moments to come, while the new University logo “where exceptional begins” was projected for all to see.
Outside the theater guests gathered while waiting for the doors to open. MUcaw danced excitedly around for the night to come. The purple bird sneaked into photographs, waved to community members passing by on the street, and escorted friends to their seats.
The excitement didn’t stop there. When the music and lights dimmed the booming voice of Dr. Doug Hendel, professor of theatre, cast the speakers and welcomed everyone to the event.
Dr. Mandy Capel, assistant professor of education, recalled her time at Mount Union and how the College paved the way for her to return as a professor. Along with the other speakers of the evening, Capel said she was thankful for the opportunities Mount Union provided.
Later in the evening students Mike Border, Deirdre Dick, Abby Honaker, William Warren and Adam Hood walked the crowd through their experiences of education, scholarship and community service, proving that Mount Union is still offering opportunities to students, even though the name changed.
After hearing from staff and students, alumni from decades past detailed their time at Mount Union College.
Closing the evening was Dr. Richard and Mrs. Sandy Geise who were cut off by the choir singing “Were all in this together” backed up by the band and a flash mob of dancing students and faculty.
After The Premier guests were invited and led by the band to the new Academic Mall to enjoy dessert.
