Justin “Judd” Lutz and Gina Serluco were announced last week as the winners of the 2010 Outstanding Senior Man and Woman award.
The winners of the award were announced Tuesday, April 20, at the annual Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation.
“There are a number of great people around campus, so anything that singles you out is honoring and humbling,” said Lutz about his nomination and win.
The award is based on leadership, service, citizenship, and scholarship, something both of the winners displayed at Mount Union.
Serluco is a middle childhood education major and served as vice president of Alpha Delta Pi and president in the National Education Association Program, among many other organizations. Serluco was also the 2009 Homecoming Queen and recipient of the Lorie Kolenbrander Public Service Award.
Serluco said her greatest accomplishment at Mount Union will be graduating in four years with a dual licensure in both middle childhood education as well as intervention specialist.
“On stage with the other two nominees, Kristin Bowling and Sarah Mariani, I felt proud to be standing next to amazing girls who were also very deserving,” said Serluco.
Lutz is a mathematics major and participated in a number of organizations. He serves as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a four-year member of both the men’s indoor and outdoor track team as well as the football team.
Lutz is this years recipient of the Joseph Montgomery Leadership Prize and the Chris Schuh Award. Both Serluco and Lutz were named to the Dean’s List.
Lutz is a four-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American. He said he draws his inspiration from his family and friends who have always been there for him.
“I just try and take the gifts and opportunities that God has blessed me with and make the most of them,” said Lutz.
Serluco also draws inspiration from her parents and family and said, “For all these wonderful people in my life, I am so lucky and I want nothing more than to make them proud. They inspire me to be the best I can be and to put nothing less than my whole heart in all that I do.”
Both winners dedicated a lot of time to the campus and organizations involved with campus. Lutz recalls his favorite memories and said they all have to do with the great friends he made at Mount Union and the bonds that will never be forgotten.
Serluco agrees, and she said her roommates and ADPi sisters are leaving her with many unforgettable memories.
Congratulations to the 2010 Outstanding Man and Woman.
