So we’re D-O-N-E.
W-O-W.
The biggest question people ask me is if I have any regrets. Any at all. And I don’t.
Yes, I did the crazy typical college things. Its college. I wrote all over strangers at graffiti party, I played hide and seek in the library, and on more than one occasion you could find me at the taco bell walk through at 2 a.m.
I lived for smoothies from the B&B, Saturday morning football games, and late night heart to hearts. I laughed through all-star bowling nights, perfected my midnight sand volleyball serve, and took full advantage of the $2.25 movies at the sMall. What an incredible journey...
But regrets? No chance. I’m not perfect; that’s for sure. I’ve made plenty of mistakes at this place. But I slapped myself in the face, moved on, and learned from each one of them. It’s called being stupid. And then, after the smoke clears, it’s called growing.
The best advice I can offer you is this.
First and most important: live for yourself and stay true to who you are. You can spend four years plus trying to impress the people around you, and you can lose yourself in the process. But I’ve found you will never make everyone happy, and that’s ok. Just stop thinking you can. Surround yourself with people who make you happy instead. Ne te quasiveris extra.
Second: have fun, but know where to draw the line. Of course we’re here to make out-of-this-world memories (and believe me, I have), but we’re also here to get a little thing called a degree. Remember that?! Do the hard work to earn that hard celebrating! There needs to be a balance. And yes, it’s more than possible.
And lastly: It’s going to be hard. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy; you have to put in the work. But in the end, it’s worth it, so man up (yes, that means us too ladies). Wedding Crashers Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion.
So am I ready? Yes; Ready to use what I’ve learned, move on, and make something of myself. And am I terrified? Absolutely. But fear can do you good every now and then. Or, at least that’s what I’m telling myself.
And hey, if Rocky can do it, I can do it - minus the whole boxing thing. American dreamer extraordinaire, Rocky Balboa: “You’ve gotta hit as hard as life. If you know what you’re worth, go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits.”
To my seniors, good luck with whatever you do and wherever you end up. I’ve loved going through the awesomeness that is the “Mount Union experience” with each of you. And to the amazing people who are still standing beside me like family, you know who you are, you’re stuck with me for life. Lucky you.
To my amazing Dynamo staff, I’ve enjoyed working with each one of you. And I know this paper is headed for big things. Go make it happen.
And to the underclassman, soak it up my friends. To quote Tom Petty, “the work never ends, but college does.” Like an all too soon, screeching, sudden halt.
Much peace & love to Good ole MUC.
Later Raiders.
