Hey fellas, brush up on your pick up lines for summer

It’s finally spring! The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and the spirit of “love” is as apparent as the Alliance Police.  There’s only one problem: how do you approach the now scantily clad ladies?  There are some do’s an don’ts when it comes to attracting the opposite sex.

When assessing this problem on a daily basis, one realizes that no truer words have been spoken on the issue than in the movie Big Daddy, when Adam Sandler as Sonny Koufax explains “half the battle is initiating conversation.”

It boils down to two things sailors.  Confidence and “the icebreaker.”

Confidence requires one essential tool – the ability to convince yourself you’re someone you’re not.  When approaching the ice, envision yourself as a cross between James Bond and Tiger Woods.

If getting your confidence booster is the pre-game pep talk, than the icebreaker is most definitely “game time.”

Here’s what you need to bear in mind: 93 percent of all communication is nonverbal.  In fact, social psychologist Michael Argyle recently proved that nonverbal communication is 12.5 times more powerful in conveying interpersonal attitudes and feelings than the verbal channel.

Point being, it’s not what you say to initiate the conversation, but how you say it.  With proper delivery, even the most cliché lines can work.  The best is witty one-liners that can be described as friendly or cute before resorting to the more risqué ones.

For example, “Good thing I brought my library card because I’m checking you out!” and “Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?”, these will generally be received with a smile.  Lines like, “I’m looking for treasure, can I look around your chest?”  should be used with extreme caution, for the risk of being slapped is high.

So next time you’re at the beach and you find yourself gawking at the most beautiful girl – stop, and remember that she should be gawking at you.  Play it off, be smooth, and only tell her what she wants to hear.
